An Indian matchmaker, in New Zealand and Australia
Families here still say marriage bureau, or vichola, or the aunty who knows everyone. Rishta's matchmakers do that same work, the first approach, the awkward questions, the two families, from inside a site where every profile is ID-checked, and never from your own city.
Open across Australia and New Zealand. Every profile is ID-checked before anyone can see it. Page updated .

What a marriage bureau is really for
Every Indian community has someone who does this. In Punjabi it is the vichola; elsewhere a family friend, a marriage broker, or the aunty at the gurdwara or the mandir who seems to know every family with a son or daughter of the right age. What they did was never really the introduction. It was everything around it: knowing which families were looking, making the first approach so that nobody risked a refusal in person, asking the questions a boy or a girl cannot ask directly, and stepping back once the families had met.
Why it is harder here
In Australia and New Zealand that network is thin and close at the same time. Families are spread across cities and countries, the person who knows everyone at your gurdwara also knows your family, and the bureau that once knew both sides is usually in India, working from a list of people it has never met. A matchmaker who is any use here has to be discreet, has to sit outside your own circle, and has to be able to check that the people they suggest are real.
How Rishta’s matchmakers work
- Never from your own city. The person reading your file is not someone you will see at a wedding next month.
- Only real, checked people. Everyone a matchmaker suggests has passed the same check you did, an ID document and a live selfie, read by a person on our team.
- Your file, not your inbox. A matchmaker never sees your messages or anybody’s private photos.
- People you could not reach yourself. Some women choose to be found by nobody except a matchmaker. A matchmaker working for a client can approach them, one at a time.
- Families, with your say-so. A matchmaker speaks with your parents, and with the other family, only once you agree.
- Half of what you pay goes to your matchmaker, because this is a person’s evenings and weekends.
Three ways to have help
An Icebreaker call is for the moment after you have matched and neither of you knows what to say. Ask for it from your conversation. A matchmaker hosts a fifteen to twenty minute voice call between the two of you inside Rishta, opens it, keeps it moving and then leaves you to it. The other person has to agree first, and nobody’s number changes hands.
A Personal Matchmaker works your file for three months: an intake conversation about what you actually want, rather than what you typed, then searching on your behalf, bringing you people with the reason for each, and handling the expectations, timelines and families. You stay visible on the site and can keep searching yourself.
Rishta Elite is the same, with your profile taken out of search altogether. Approaches are made for you, discreetly and one at a time, and nobody learns you are looking unless you decide to tell them. Parents can start it quietly: nothing about their son or daughter goes on the site until he or she joins and checks their own ID.
The two longer services are by invitation. Write to us, we talk, and we say plainly whether we can help. None of them renews by itself, and the prices are below. Many families like to send a biodata before the first conversation; the free biodata maker makes one in a few minutes, on your phone.
What a matchmaker will not do
A matchmaker will not promise a marriage, because nobody honest can. They will not put up a profile for someone who has not agreed: the person on a profile always checks their own ID. They will not read your conversations. And they will not charge women differently from men, because every matchmaker service is paid for by whoever uses it, at the same price.
If you would rather search on your own, you can do that too, and it is free for everyone who joins before 31 December 2026. A matchmaker is there for when you would rather not do this alone.
